Bikram Yoga

Yoga is becoming one of the most popular forms of exercise in almost every part of the world, and Bikram yoga is perhaps becoming one of the most popular yoga choices. More commonly known as hot yoga, Bikram yoga is a series of 26 postures specifically designed to be performed in a room at a high heat. Typically Bikram yoga is performed in a studio that is heated to be over 100 degrees Fahrenheit and at 70 percent humidity. This level of high heat is supposed to make the postures more effective and allow the body to stretch easier and more naturally.bikramyoga

While Bikram yoga is a very popular yoga style, there are a few health considerations you should make before starting a class. While the posture series developed for Bikram yoga was intended to be suitable for beginners, the level of heat is such that even a more advanced yogi may experience discomfort doing them at such an extreme heat. The heat can make the joints of the body more flexible than they normally are and can lead to injury if you over extend yourself. It is also important to note that those with certain illnesses or conditions should not do Bikram yoga, such as those with low blood pressure, those who are pregnant, or those with multiple sclerosis. The benefits, however, can far outweigh the risks if the proper precautions are taken.

Bikram yoga is one of the few types of yoga that is primarily focused on the physical and this is perhaps one of the reasons why it is so popular. The intense heat can lead to faster weight loss and increased skill in your poses due to increased flexibility. It can also cleanse the body due to extreme perspiration. While not every yoga enthusiast will like Bikram yoga, a class is certainly worth a try.
